Pheim Malaysia is pleased to inform you that the company will be 30 years old today, Thursday, on January 4, 2024. 30 years ago, KL Index was at its highest point. It was natural that many thought Pheim Malaysia would fail. Thanks to Pheim’s Investment Philosophy of “Never Fully Invest At All Times” that helped us to weather through the crises. Pheim is a strong believer that crisis creates problems but also provides opportunities. Investors who have long-term funds and invest in the equities are likely to get a return of more than the inflation rate and the fixed-deposit rate in the long run. Investing during depressed market conditions and following Pheim’s Investment Philosophy to buy and sell near the trough and peak respectively would boost your returns. Pheim Malaysia has been able to weather through many major crises – Asian Financial Crisis (1999/98), Tech Bubble (2000), September 11 (2001), SARS (2003), Global Financial Crisis (2007/08), European Debt Crisis (2011), Oil & Gas Crisis (2015/16), US-China Trade War (2018), Covid-19 Pandemic (2019/20) and Russia Invasion of Ukraine (2022) to meet the expectations of many clients. It is the most comforting to witness that Refinitiv Lipper has ranked Dana Makmur Pheim, our flagship Islamic Balanced Fund in the Islamic Mixed Asset MYR Balanced Category, No. 1, in terms of cumulative return, in the Islamic Mixed Asset MYR Balanced – Malaysia category for the 10-year period for the 11th consecutive year, and 15-year period for the 6th consecutive year, ended 31 December 2022, as shown below:
Dana Makmur Pheim has to date won a total of 56 Refinitiv Lipper Fund Awards. No fund in this category has ever won so many awards. Dana Makmur Pheim registered a total return of +452.11% for the period since inception in January 2002 till 30 September 2023, outperforming its benchmark (+114.32%) by a huge margin of +337.79%.

Pheim SICAV-SIF-ASEAN Emerging Companies Fund (Pheim Asean Fund) was ranked No.1 according to LSEG Lipper’s calculation. The Fund posted 1,130.90% positive return in $USD for 25-year period from 1 October 1998 to 30 September 2023 and ranked No. 1 position of the same peers which with eligible calculation period of Equity ASEAN under Lipper Global Classification, globally. It also outperformed the benchmark-FTSE ASEAN CR USD which posted 403.20% growth during the same period. Pheim ASEAN Fund was ranked No.1 in Asean Equity Category No.1 many times in the past by Morningstar. Crisis may create problems, but it certainly gives investors extraordinary results.

At its best, on the 3rd February 2015, which was also coincidentally the 20th anniversary of Pheim ASEAN Fund, the Fund registered an exceptionally good performance. As a result, Thomson Reuters Lipper ranked Pheim ASEAN Fund No. 1 among all its peers within the ASEAN Equity Category for all the 1- to 20-year periods ended 3rd February 2015.
Employee Provident Fund of Malaysia (EPF) appointed Pheim Malaysia as the External Fund Manager of EPF in 1997 and has managed EPF’s money for close to 27 years in the category of Domestic Equity (Conventional). Pheim Malaysia won the 2022 EPF Best External Fund Manager for Domestic Equity (Conventional) Award and ranked top in terms of both Return on Investment (ROI) and Time Weighted Rate of Return (TWRR) for 2nd consecutive year for the 3-year period ending 31 December 2021 and 2022 among 10 External Fund Managers. Pheim Malaysia was ranked top in terms of TWRR for the 3-year period ending 31 December 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022. In terms of ROI, Pheim Malaysia was ranked No.1 among the External Fund Managers for 4th consecutive year for the 1-year period ending 31 December 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. In terms of long-term consistency, cumulatively, Pheim’s TWRR outperformed the benchmark set by EPF every calendar year for 27 consecutive years ended December 2023. To date, the cumulative return has outperformed the benchmark by more than 650%.
